Tetsuya Abe / 哲也阿部 : a modern artist using an ancestral technique

Tetsuya Abe is a hitofude artist based in Nikko, in the Tochigi prefecture.

He paints traditional dragons using the hitofude technique that he learnt from a master living nearby when he was student. The master taught him about the ink and the brush, and showed him few times how to execute the technique, consisting in painting without raising the brush. He then practiced by himself, again and again for one year, until he was satisfied by the result. He is now selling his work since 2003.
